The 2019 Holiday Wish List Post

Step One

- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your DW. The post should contain your list of 10(or more) holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your DW, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list.

And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out; it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish and it might come true. Give and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1. I love holiday cards. Give me your address and I will send you one. Postal mail is so rare these days, and then it's 99% bills and flyers.

2. Patterns. All of them. Yes, I have Pinterest, and Tudorlinks, and multiple bins of the Big 3, and a library of books of Godey's and American Duchess and Ladies Home Companion and Hunnisett, and am slowly amassing a small collection of Truly Victorian/Laughing Moon/etc, but ... patterns. Tangible paper patterns.

7. Don't pay it forward with a latte for the guy in line behind you. Put that money right into the tip jar instead. The people working behind the counter need that $5 more.

8. Call your senators, congresscritters, your elected representatives. Stand up for those who cannot speak - remind them they work for WE THE PEOPLE. If you call a DC office you likely won't even have to interact with a human, just leave a polite firm message regarding (cutting Social Security, cutting Veteran Benefits and funding for programs for the elderly, allowing the government to snatch native lands, casual lying to the FBI, cutting funding for ACA advertising, using extreme force on barefoot children, whatever you want).

9. Post more regular content on DW. I like reading your adventures, your thoughts, your plans, and seeing your photos.

10. Get yourself a mani/pedi, and then share photos. Self-care, it helps a small business, you also tip your manicurist, and it forces you to sit still for a few minutes during this overhyped exhausting season.
