The 2019 Holiday Wish List Post

Step One

- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your DW. The post should contain your list of 10(or more) holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your DW, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list.

And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out; it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish and it might come true. Give and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

Don't forget to include a shipping address.

1. I love holiday cards. Give me your address and I will send you one. Postal mail is so rare these days, and then it's 99% bills and flyers.

2. Patterns. All of them. Yes, I have Pinterest, and Tudorlinks, and multiple bins of the Big 3, and a library of books of Godey's and American Duchess and Ladies Home Companion and Hunnisett, and am slowly amassing a small collection of Truly Victorian/Laughing Moon/etc, but ... patterns. Tangible paper patterns.

3. I have AWLs. This one is for costuming, and includes Truly Victorian patterns, fabric, embellishments, twi'lek costume stuff, and even pony beads (yes, pony beads, really) http://a.co/7PBnHmw

4. This one is for Books/Movies/Games, including rockabilly style, MORE patterns, and neo-pagan religious texts http://a.co/48WDQoy I cannot believe how many Marvel DVDs I do not actually own!! I have NO PROBLEM with used books whatsoever.

5. And this one is Everything Else. http://a.co/hHJLzaT

6. I'm a goth and a nerd and a Ravenclaw, and I have started collecting pinback badges. I put up a corkboard in the workroom and get to look at my happy collection whenever I sit at my machine. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo5F2YanA9D/ Etsy is a good source for small business nerdy badges.

7. Don't pay it forward with a latte for the guy in line behind you. Put that money right into the tip jar instead. The people working behind the counter need that $5 more.

8. Call your senators, congresscritters, your elected representatives. Stand up for those who cannot speak - remind them they work for WE THE PEOPLE. If you call a DC office you likely won't even have to interact with a human, just leave a polite firm message regarding (cutting Social Security, cutting Veteran Benefits and funding for programs for the elderly, allowing the government to snatch native lands, casual lying to the FBI, cutting funding for ACA advertising, using extreme force on barefoot children, whatever you want).

9. Post more regular content on DW. I like reading your adventures, your thoughts, your plans, and seeing your photos.

10. Get yourself a mani/pedi, and then share photos. Self-care, it helps a small business, you also tip your manicurist, and it forces you to sit still for a few minutes during this overhyped exhausting season.

Address:
Leah Lloyd
623 Manor Street
Columbia, PA 17512

comments

Makeup

Now that Kat von D has revealed herself to be a garbage human, what with being in a relationship with a fucking Nazi, and being anti-vaxx, I am sublimely grateful that I never invested in any of her overhyped makeup.

So here is a list of smaller, independent, and/or better quality makeup companies. Feel free to add your favorites.

Lipsticks and body glitter, they offer samples. I have some of their lippies, and they are quite nice
http://portlandblacklipstickco.com/

Get your nerd theme on. GF and vegan, don't see options for samples
https://www.geekchiccosmetics.com/

Metallic lipsticks, among other products. A friend recommends highly
https://www.blackmooncosmetics.com/

I have been meaning to order from this company for a while
https://www.concreteminerals.com/

Friend bought the full lip line, says it has decent staying power through food and drink, and easy to remove with makeup remover. I find the black lasts longer than the reds.
https://www.karity.com/

Good prices, good quality. Their bronze lipstick wasn't a stain so it came off fairly quickly, but it didn't feather or look weird as it was coming off naturally. The eyeliner is recommended highly
https://www.nyxcosmetics.com/lipstick
https://www.nyxcosmetics.com/epic-ink-liner/NYX_409.html

Not cruelty-free, but said to be high quality
https://www.smashbox.com/

Reviews of their glitter epoxy are raves. Pride+cat eyeshadow line. Samples available.
http://fyrinnae.com

I love the eyeshadows from this company. Samples available
https://www.aromaleighcosmetics.com/

Some epic colors here
http://notoriouslymorbid.com/

Owner is about to have a baby, shipping may be delayed. The selection of shades of not-red lipstick is amazing
https://www.impulsecosmetics.com/

Lot of neutrals
https://www.meltcosmetics.com/

The Dip Brow Pomade is highly recommended
http://www.anastasiabeverlyhills.com/best-sellers/brows/

<strike>Vegan and CTHULHU
https://www.belladonnascupboard.com/</strike>

ABH
http://www.anastasiabeverlyhills.com/makeup/

Tarte
https://tartecosmetics.com/en_US/home

Becca
https://www.beccacosmetics.com/

All of my brushes are ELF
https://www.elfcosmetics.com/

Bite
https://www.bitebeauty.com/

Besame, because Agent Carter lipstick
https://besamecosmetics.com

Part of your purchase goes to charity (charity depends on product), I really like my lipstick from this company
https://colortheworldlipsticks.com/

Glamour Doll Eyes
https://glamourdolleyes.com/

Honeybee also does bath and body
http://honeybeegardens.com/all-cosmetics/

I adore MYO neons
https://myomakeup.com/

comments
